Welcome to the Phoenix ...
Phase 3 Begins.
After three years of hard work planning and grant finding we are pleased to announce that The Phoenix Centre Charitable Annexe is now under construction.
In late 2009 the Big Lottery Community Building Programme confirmed that we had secured the funding needed to undertake this exciting new community development.
We believe that we secured the funding as a result of our strong 'Green' ethos and our commitment to deliver what is probably the most environmentally sound community centre refurbishment in Kent.
We need to send to say a big thank you to all that have helped to make this possible and to our hire groups who have been so patient and tolernat of the disruption the building work has caused.
Here at The Phoenix Centre we constantly strive to complement the range of 'spaces' already available at other community venues in Sandwich and the local Parishes, we aim to fill the gap and offer something new, something fresh and vibrant.
We have a number of unique features that make us an ideal choice of venue for new local groups, regular or one off meetings, small business seminars, local government training, workshops, activities, arts, crafts and performances. As well as being able to offer a great venue for family celebrations and events.
We already enjoy wonderful community support with a wide range of local groups regularly using the Centre. Everything from local rock bands to classes for foreign students, from Slimming groups to Caligraphy classes they all have found a home at The Phoenix Centre.
We strive to be truly Community Centered.
The Phoenix Centre Ethos:
As Centre Trustees we aim to create much more than an average community space, we are not just another impersonal building with rooms to hire, we aim to be able to offer the local communities much more than this.
1/ We aim to be open, friendly and approachable.
2/ We strive to be professional at all times.
3/ We make an effort to be flexible.
4/ We try to create a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere.
5/ Whenever possible we strive to meet the needs of the community.
6/ We endeavour to follow examples of ‘best practice’.
7/ We have a policy of inclusivity.
8/ We are improving the Centre, so we can offer you a top quality community facility in which to hold your event.
9/ The Centre adheres to the principles of Zero Waste.
10/ We hope to make Centre an example of environmental excellence, operating to a good environmental standard.
User groups will also be able to access support on issues of 'best practice' and advice on funding related matters from the volunteers at the Centre.
The Environment Matters.
Here at the Phoenix Centre we are doing our bit and our best to reduce the Centre's impact upon both the local and global environment. We have installed renewable energy technologies, including the first Baxi EcoGen CHP (Combined Heat and Power) unit in Kent, energy and water saving measures, with low flush cisterns, waterless urinals and rain water harvesting, we are using recycled or recyclable materials and throughout the building we have minimised waste and the use of materials that are potentially polluting or damaging to the environment.
The Centre has won a range fo awards recognising our effort and commitment to the environment, we have signed up to the Zero Waste Charter. We are even being used as national case studies by major companies such as Baxi (the EcoGen designers and manufacturers) and by Altro (UK based world leaders in safety flooring) both companies supportive of our intention to use the building as a showcase for new materials and technologies.
If your group, company or organisations cares about the environment we are confident that you can book the Phoenix Centre as a venue knowing that we are working hard to protect the environment and the welfare of future generations.
